That felt like a personal attack. I guess I'm laboring under a delusion.
I'm a fan of this concept:
"Dr. Hoenikker used to say that any scientist who couldn't explain to an eight-year-old what he was doing was a charlatan."
Thanks for posting this clip, Anomie. But how did you discover it?
Jay: It was sent to my entire department by one of the professors. He said "it should give us all humility, but also inspiration." He didn't explain what he meant -- inspiration to do what???
Aftersox: Thanks for the link to the comic. That was great! I am quite the fan of plain speech (in my department, we all have to read Becker's Writing for Social Scientists). But I do have a tendency to speak like a stats book sometimes...
I wonder what qualitative sociologists think when they see this?
